Audio Engineer Qualification

In order to determine whether you possess the necessary skills to produce programs for our network, we ask that you answer a few questions and post-produce two short samples.

Questionnaire

Please answer the following questions in an email message sent to our Senior Audio Engineer.

  • What application do you use for one- or two-track editing?
  • What application do you use for multi-track audio?
  • What is the difference between peak and RMS normalization? When would you use each and why?
  • Describe your personal workflow. Starting with a raw WAV or AIFF recording of a panel discussion, for example, what post-production steps would you take? What tools and plug-ins would you use and why?

Sample Programs

After you have received a positive response from our Senior Audio Engineer, download one of the following sets of files. They include short audio files as well as instructions, which are reproduced below.

Sample Audio Production Instructions

  • The Task 1 folder contains two files. Listen to the Task1_Original.mp2 segment and compare it to the Task1_Example_Output.mp3. Your job is to produce the original segment with final results as good or better than the Example Output. Encode to mp3 and save the project as "<your_name>-task1.mp3."
  • The Task 2 folder contains one file titled Task2_Original.mp2. This time no sample result is provided. Produce this segment using your best judgment. Your results should be suitable for publication. Finally, encode to mp3 and save the project as: "<your_name>-task2.mp3."

In his email, our Senior Audio Enginner will give you instructions for uploading the files.

Thank you for your interest in The Conversations Network. We look forward to having you on our team. If you have any questions, please email our Senior Audio Engineer.
